Youth Lead Service: Sermon Outline for 4.25.10 (LTC showcase)

Are any of you tired or burdened this morning?

  • Life takes its toll on us
    • Deadlines, appointments, obligations, research papers, prom, track, speech, family, etc
    • (school self, after school self, church self, work self)
  • Burdens weigh you down, and can make you lose focus on what’s most important

Jesus gives rest for the weary and burdened

  • Notice what takes place before Matthew 11:28-30
  • He continues to give rest to the weary and burdened after Matt. 11:28-30
  • He offers rest for the weary and burdened today

Jesus doesn’t just take these things away, he gives something to us as well

  • He gives us life – Jn. 10:10
  • Challenge: there is a tendency to think of life as pieces of a pie. That’s the problem: segmented living isn’t really living
    • You can lose your integrity
    • But really, the life that Jesus gives us is all-encompassing not meant to be segmented.

Jesus has come to give us life – Jn. 10:10

  • new life,” a “full,” or “abundant,” life
  • Eternal life begins now

Relationships are important – v. 4,5

  • We’re involved in all kinds of relationships: parents, kids, friends, co-workers, grandparents, church family, etc.
  • The most important relationship is with the one who has promised life
    • We need to know the Good Shepherd –v. 11, 14

We are in this thing together

  • We are on this journey together – v. 3, 4, 16
  • Scripture stresses the importance of our relationship with God, and the next generation — Deut. 6:4-9; 2 Tim. 3:14-15
    • That’s what today is about
    • A visible reminder that what we do here in worship, and in life is intergenerational
    • We are running this race together – 1 Cor. 9: 24; Heb. 12:1
