Food for Thought: Freed by Faith…

"Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever" (Psalm 125:1)
A word from the Word: Read Mark 5:21-34
"…your faith has healed you…" (Mark 5:34)
I need a story like the one we read about today. I know what's like to be bound by an ailment for many years. [...]

Back from vacation

My wife and our girls went to Branson over the weekend. We had a relaxing extended weekend. I needed a break from the monotony of summer preparation. I will be at Camp for two weeks starting this Sunday. So blogging will be sporadic.

Mark 5 and Legion

Mitch Wilburn, from the Park Plaza Church spoke on this first, so this material is not my own. Thanks Mitch for the inspiration.
The Demon-possessed man in Mark 5 could possibly be called Satan's master-piece. We aren't told the man's real name, only that he had lost his identity, and was now known as "Legion." Apparantly, [...]

Moring quiet time with Mark

I have written before about worry. It’s a real problem for me. I know that I need not worry, but at certain times of the year, when the checking account is empty, or when the unexpexted bill surfaces, I confess I wrestle with worry.

It’s weird how I almost seem to forget that in [...]

Mark’s secret

Our congregation has been walking through the Gospel of Mark. One of the areas of interest to me in his Gospel has been his "messianic secret." Why, in the world would Jesus want the truth be hidden about his identity?

I think in light of the other  Gospels, and other NT writings, what Mark [...]

The Da Vinci flop?

I think the movie was a let down. My wife and I went to see the Da Vinci Code this afternoon. Again, it was disappointing. This film is a testament to the notion that the book is better than the movie. The film plays down some of the harsher criticisms of Christianity, and there is [...]

whirlwind weekend

It’s been a whirlwind weekend. We had an end of the school year all-nighter Friday night. Saturday afternoon, was a carwash/ fundraiser for Wilderness Trek Christian Camp. Sunday was youth lead service, and our last student small group meeting. I think since Friday I have had about 7 hours of sleep. I am tired to [...]

musings on the Da Vinci Code

I just finished reading, Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code. I thought it was an excellent work. His narrative is captivating from the beginning. So, what’s the harm in a good book? I think for many Christian people there is a fear that this book will somehow endanger the Christian faith. The material in Brown’s book is not [...]

Shine Like Stars –Philippians 2:1-18

Sunday is our Sunday for honoring our graduates. I am preaching and here is the outline for Sunday morning:
-Attitude is everything:
-For where there is selfishness, for where there is no unity – what is missing, is Christ’s followers displaying the attitude of Jesus
- If we want to shine like stars in the [...]
